New rules from May 25, 2018
There will be new rules for processing personal data on May 25, 2018. The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is a new EU regulation that applies throughout the EU on May 25, 2018. GDPR replaces the currently applicable Personal Data Act (PuL). With regard to the processing of personal data, GDPR differs from the Personal Data Act and the requirements on how companies may process your personal data are tightened.
What is a personal information and what is a processing of personal data?
Personal data is any kind of information that can be directly or indirectly attributed to a natural person who is in life. E.g. images and sound recordings that are processed in a computer can be personal information even if no names are mentioned. Encrypted data and various kinds of electronic identities (eg IP numbers) are personal data if they can be linked to natural persons.
Processing of personal data is all that happens with the personal data. Any action taken with personal data is a treatment, regardless of whether it is performed automated or not. Examples of common treatments are collection, registration, organization, structuring, storage, processing, transfer and deletion.
